Chick'n Dumplings Surprise (Hungry Girl)

I don't have words for this dish. To me, it's quite simply the perfect winter night meal. Good, soul warming and filling.

You can get the recipe from the hungry girl herself, here. More pix and info after the jump.

What's the surprise you ask? I tell you all the way at the end...
Start with a mirepoix

Add water, chicken broth and mushrooms.

seasoning...

bring to a boil, with the chicken.

Shred the chicken

Create the dumpling mixture (see her recipe for details)

Chicken shredded, add the peas and the cream of chicken soup.

Start portioning out your dumplings.

Drop'em in, one by one and allow to cook a couple minutes per side.

we used tongs to flip'em.

We served with asparagus, but use whatever you like.

Amazing.

What's the surprise you ask? Well this dish is kinda quiet and unassuming until you dive into one of those dumplings, which are loaded with pepper. I don't know that I usually think that pepper adds a ton to a dish, but in this case it's like BANG, in your FACE! Makes all the difference in the world. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor. Make this dish.

If you're a regular reader you may know of my fondness for the BBQ Chicken Casserole (also from Hungry Girl). As I told Jules last night, this is absolutely on par with that. That, my friends, is saying something.
